WoW Stuff

How long have you played wow?
I started playing since before Faxmate was born. Since 2004.

How did you come to start playing?
I used to be big into Quake3 and Unreal Tournament. The reason why I started playing WoW is the lamest reason in the world: Because a boy I liked was playing it.

What’s your favorite race/spec?
Feral druid worgens are the best because everyone thinks they’re the worst. Being the underdog is the best.

What brought you to Darkwind?
When you’ve been playing since Vanilla, you know that finding a guild that lasts longer than a single patch cycle  is not easy to find. Darkwind’s longevity keeps me here and I intend to stay here until the guild is no more.

What is your favorite thing to do in game?
Fishing is probably the most zen thing the game has to offer. I can just chill out and watch netflix while fishing. 10/10 definitely something I recommend when you just want to do nothing but still turn a profit.

If wow were to suddenly disappear, what game would you be playing?
If Red Dead Redemption never had an ending, I’d play it forever. Something about being a lonely cowboy riding through the forests and deserts of the Old West is awesome.

If you could vacation anywhere in game…
Grizzly Hills Northrend. I’ve been to Sequoia and Grizzly Hills is Sequoia to the nth degree. It’s giant red-wood style trees and quiet solitude is endearing and rare to find in the WoW universe.

If you were able to turn any in-game pet into a real –life one…
Jiggles. No question. I want Jiggles the Jello Cat for a real pet. It’d be messy and a pain cleaning up but HE’S SO CUTE.

Who is your favorite character from the World of Warcraft and why?
Zen’kiki is the character I want to be the most like. He fails at everything, but knows in his heart he is a druid so he keeps trying and trying until he finds what he shines the brightest at.

When Not Playing WoW

What are some of your hobbies?
My free time is spent making 3D art, especially environment art in Unreal and Unity. You can see what I’ve done by going to my portfolio here. Pre-Covid I was really into powerlifting and competed locally. I miss those days and can’t wait to go back to pulling iron again.

What hobby would you get into if time and money weren’t an issue?
I’m very lucky that what was once  my hobby is now my job. I used to work in a completely separate field away from making video games. Now I’m able to have made what I love doing a profession.  Aside from that, I would love to learn how to sail and immerse myself in Polynesian culture. I respect the culture for what they’ve accomplished thousands of years ago and could spend a lifetime learning how they sailed across the Pacific

Do you collect anything?
I’m one of those weird game artists that has a serious love of stickers and coffee mugs.  My office is decorated in stickers from games I love to play and I’m always drinking from a different mug every day. Right now my favorite mug says, “sorry, I gato go my cat needs me.”

Favorite book?
Right now, I am reading Creativity, Inc. by Ed Catmull. Ed Catmull is the co-founder of Pixar and in this book, he dives into the successes and failures beheld by the company and discusses the complexity of driving creativity forward through the bowels of Hollywood and movies. It’s a book I highly recommend for anyone that is even thinking about how the 3D/VFX world works and is curious to understand how to be creative in a corporate environment.

My favorite book of all time would be The Kon Tiki Expedition – By Raft Across the South Seas by Thor Heyerdahl. Written in 1948, it recounts the author’s experience where he travelled across the Pacific on a balsa tree raft, following the journey set by Polynesians from South America more than one thousand years ago. It describes the tenacity and thirst for adventure that is instilled in all of us and goes into detail the history of the Polynesians.

Favorite TV show?
If possible, give Love Death + Robots a watch. It’s a compilation of the most current 3D animation out there on the market. It’s beautiful, sad, angering, and wonderful.

Favorite meal/food?
Gumbo. My year’s stay in Georgia has been an explosion of flavor and I do not regret it!

Do you have any pets? If so, introduce us!
Monterey Jack and Bleu are brother and sister Maine Coons. Their favorite pastimes include: squirrel and bird watching, brushies, and leaving poop the size of a human child’s behind so I can clean it up.

What would you sing at Karaoke night?
PA PA YA! By BabyMetal. If you are really into death metal but have a cute Jpop side, I highly recommend you give BabyMetal a listen because that is exactly what it is.

What is your spirit animal?
This disappointed frog

What small things brighten your day?
A fancy cup of coffee from my local hipster cafe. I live right down the road from it. I take a break from work almost every day to stretch my legs and pick up a cup.

What’s something about you that most people don’t know?
I am a terrible 2D artist, despite having the job title of “artist.” Having a computer really helps me cheat the system. If someone were to task me to draw something right off the bat, I’d give them a stick figure and wish them a good day.
